Peter W. Nauert, 64, an insurance executive, died Aug. 19, , near his home in Santa Fe, NM, following a short battle in cancer.

At the time of his death, he was surrounded by family and friends. He was a tremendous leader, colleague, friend and father, well-known for decades in the health insurance industry.

Nauert was born May 3, in Rockford, IL. His first job in the insurance industry was selling life insurance policies in rural Wisconsin during college. He received a Bachelor&#;s degree in Business Administration from Marquette University and went on to complete his Juris Doctor from George Washington University.

Following a short period of time practicing law, Nauert joined Pioneer Life Insurance Company of Illinois, a company his father, Robert W. Nauert, had founded in Pioneer Life, which primarily served the health and life insurance needs of senior citizens, became the flagship company and primary insurance operating entity of Pioneer Fi
